Guidance Lessons

Kindergarten:
www.Wedolisten.org, Read Howard B. Wigglebottom Learns to Listen; play the book on the website, listen to the song, do matching game (all from website, may have to turn off pop up blockers to play the game.)  And can print free copies of poster on Wigglebottom learns to listen from website.  Students will create a circle map (Thinking Map) of what makes a good listener and what makes a not so good listener. 


First:
Guidance Goodies:  In Which Garage will You Park your Anger?  Can Read any of these Soda Pop Head, Bully Blockers Club, Nobody Knew What To Do, Monkey See Monkey Do by Linda Schwartz, Can sing song “If you are bothered and you know it.”
Students will create a tool box of choices- tools labeled with things to do when you are bothered:  ignore, walk away, make a joke, say please stop, etc.  

Second:
Guidance Goodies:  Read The Little Red Hen w/ activity LRH, sort responsible from irresponsible choices
(written on picture cards of characters from the story)
 Make a Friend and Unfriend pizza- writing good and bad choices for friendship on the pizzas.  

Third:
Read Edward Fudwupper Fibbed Big; honest/dishonest card game pgs 125-126 (from That’s My Story Too by Kate Brambrut & Amy Sauder Lehman / Youthlight  -- ISBN# 978-1-59850-082-0)
  
Fourth:
Read Mr. Peabody’s Apples / activity pg 157-158 (That’s My Story Too) Look at extension activities pg 158
Glitter activity (use hand gel glitter  bath & body works)– can substitute teacher having glitter on her hands and then shake all students hands in class.
Can also use Timely Tools sorting activity w/ conflict management
Make a poster board w/Velcro – 3 columns 1) Tools for compromise, 2)Tools to use with Friends,3)Tools to use with Bullies w/ situational boxes & can also use timely tool role play cards
  
Fifth:
Read Trouble Talk / activity pg 160-161(That’s’ My Story Too)  create five rumor cards: 1) a boy kissed a girl in the book center 2) you all failed your STAAR test last year 3)someone in your class stole a book from the library 4) your teacher sile money from the cafeteria 5) there is no school tomorrow
Use Timely Tool Cards (from Coping with Conflict / Youthlight) for discussion and can do so in groups.
